Pre-school education in Guatemala
The first project funded by BGL was in Guatemala where over half of all children suffer from some degree of chronic malnutrition and only one per cent of children under the age of four receive any form of pre-school education.
Together we’re working to provide children with a healthier start in life and with BGL’s support have built four new pre-school classrooms and established a further 18 early childhood care centres.
Lifesaving access to water and sanitation
Our current project funded by BGL is in rural Laos and provides lifesaving access to water and sanitation to children and their communities.
In Laos, the lack of adequate sanitation facilities, especially in rural areas, remains a constraint to the country’s development.
It also leads to child malnutrition and diseases such as typhoid, cholera and diarrhoea, which is the second most common cause of death in children under five and causes an estimated 3,000 deaths each year in Laos. Through this project 1,639 children and their families will benefit from improved water supplies, and better health and hygiene.
A relationship we greatly value
"We are committed to supporting worthwhile causes in the UK and internationally, but the real driver for us is the tangible difference we make with our BGL-funded projects.
"We know our work with Plan International is hugely important to our people, many have been personally touched by experiences in Guatemala and Laos and the whole organisation has rallied behind fundraising efforts for these projects."
