How Plan International helped me realise my ambition

Plan International helped me, and is helping many more girls in Sierra Leone through their Girls’ Education Challenge programme. The programme provides support and training so young women can become learning assistants in primary school classrooms.

In Sierra Leone, just 12 per cent of teachers are female. This has a negative impact on girls’ attendance and learning in school, and reinforces low aspirations and confidence.

More female teachers

helps improve the learning experience for girls and keep more girls in school

495 young women

have received training and placed in primary schools as learning assistants

Female role models

More female learning assistants has provided role models for female and male students
