Football for Change

Together, we can help children around the world play, learn and thrive

Since 2015, Chelsea Football Club and Plan International have been working together to transform children’s lives through the power of football.

Every child deserves a fair start in life. But not every child is born with the same opportunities. That’s why we’re calling on Chelsea fans to support Football for Change and level the playing field for children around the world.

When you sponsor a child with Plan International UK, you’ll support their entire community, helping to make sure they grow up in an environment where they can play, learn and thrive. Will you sponsor a child today?

Meet Nisha

Since 2015, Chelsea has sponsored children in Colombia, Ghana, India, Indonesia and Thailand – children just like 11-year-old Nisha, who enjoys going to school to make new friends and learn poems. Through child sponsorship, we’ve been able to work with Nisha’s community in India to promote immunisation, install water pumps, reduce child marriage and help more children go to school.

When you sign up to become a sponsor, you’ll make a difference to a whole community too – and you’ll see the impact you’re making through the letters and drawings your sponsored child will send to you.

Is sponsorship like adoption?

No, it's not. The child you sponsor will have a family of their own, but your words of encouragement play an important role for them and their community. Letter writing also helps children learn about other cultures and improve their literacy skills.

How long will I sponsor for?

We hope your relationship with us and the child you sponsor will continue for a number of years. But, if your circumstances change, you can stop at any time and we will try to find another sponsor for your sponsored child. Children are usually sponsored until they are 18.

How can I request more information?

Our Supporter Relations team are happy to answer any questions you have about sponsorship and our work. You can reach them on 0300 777 9779 or

Girls take part in a football training session in Tanzania, where they learn about harmful practices including FGM.

Around the world, we work with children who have survived conflict, violence and trauma. For children living in refugee camps in Jordan, Bangladesh and Ethiopia, playing football enables them to have fun, learn and enjoy their childhood – while football competitions bring communities together so children can play and make friends.

In Tanzania, we’re training football coaches to recognise, raise awareness of and prevent dangerous practices affecting girls. Football training sessions provide a safe space where girls and boys can perfect their skills while learning about the impact of FGM, early marriage and the importance of education. Football tournaments also provide a platform for discussing important issues and bringing the wider community into the conversation.
