Empowering girls to dream big

With the Body Shop

Our partnership with The Body Shop has equality for girls and young women at its heart. Together we’re supporting girls to take control of their own lives and become independent and successful women in the future.

In support of our work, The Body Shop made a £25,000 donation in December 2019. Throughout November and December they also donated 1.8p from every transaction, enabling 1,500 girls in Brazil and Indonesia to access the education, skills and training they need to fulfil their potential and ‘dream big’.

To celebrate International Women’s Day 2020, The Body Shop are donating £50,000 in support of our work with girls in the UK and Ireland. Together, we can make sure girls and young people know their rights and have their voices heard.

Brazil: a brighter future for girls

North-eastern Brazil is home to 60% of the country’s unemployed young people. Through our partnership with The Body Shop, we’ll be providing 75 young women in the region with vocational training and leadership skills. They’ll then go on to train 200 adolescent girls on gender equality, female economic empowerment and leadership.

Meanwhile, a further 1,000 young women will benefit from the project’s outreach activities, including online and community-based campaigns, dialogue circles and peer-mentoring.

Indonesia: creating sustainable small businesses

In Indonesia, only 52% of women are in employment compared to over 81% of men. Together with The Body Shop, we’re helping 330 young people – including 264 women  – to earn a safe, decent living through small businesses, based on environmental sustainability.

We’ll provide training and enterprise support to help the young people build a better future for themselves and the planet, as well as promoting girls’ rights and gender equality, to give the young women involved the best chance of succeeding.

Uk: a safe space for girls online

UK: a safe space for girls online

Our research shows that, despite living in one of the world’s richest countries, girls in the UK are consistently being denied their rights. Sexism, discrimination, harassment and violence often leave girls feeling unsafe at school, in the street and online, as well as feeling alone in what they’re going through.

That’s why we’re providing a safe online space through our Girls Shout Out project, where girls can have their voices heard and discuss the issues that matter to them, from body image to periods, teenage pregnancy and LGBTIQ+ rights.
