Solicitors often hold dormant or residual funds in the accounts of clients who can’t be identified or traced.

By donating these unclaimed funds to Plan International UK, your firm can help support children’s rights, education, and gender equality worldwide.

How to donate unclaimed funds

If you’ve taken all reasonable steps to contact the client and the funds remain unclaimed, you can donate them to Plan International UK.

Contact [email protected] and we’ll be in touch to discuss the donation, which can be made by bank transfer or cheque.

Under the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) rules:

  • Balances of up to £500 can be donated without SRA permission.
  • Balances over £500 may also be donated, but you’ll need to obtain prior approval from the SRA.

To request permission for donations over £500, please contact the SRA’s Professional Ethics Guidance Team at [email protected].

Further guidance is available on the SRA website.
