WHY 129?

Around the world, 129 million girls are unable to go to school. Without education, girls are being left behind and are stripped of the future they could’ve had.

Held back by outdated stereotypes and unfair expectations, girls continue to feel unsafe, unrepresented, and unheard. To achieve an equal world, every girl, everywhere, must be able to stay in school and learn.

That’s why we’re asking you to raise £129 for the 129 million girls out of school - and help make International Day of the Girl a moment where we come together to power change and celebrate the increible potential of girls. Will you create your challenge and fundraise for girls being left behind?

MOVE FOR GIRLS LIKE DIATOU

“When my brothers went to school and left me alone at home, I was not happy at all” shares 11-year-old Diatou.

Until last year, Diatou had never been to school as her mother could only afford to send her two sons. To help children like Diatou find a pathway into education, Plan International launched accelerated learning centres in her community.

Diatou graduated with flying colours and is now at a mainstream school. She says: “I love studying and I really enjoy French, I’m happy to be among the best in my class”.

Your support will help girls like Diatou stay in school, make their own choices and speak out for gender equality. Together we can move towards a brighter future for all girls.
