Despite being a normal part of life, periods are still way too taboo in the UK. Due to a lack of education, many girls and young people don’t fully understand what’s happening to their bodies and don’t have the relevant information they need to manage their periods.
The Period Peers Programme is here to change that. It’s a project designed by young people to help you and your friends learn more about periods and have open and inclusive conversations about them. Young people tell us they want solutions led by other young people and period education that is relevant to their lives, drawing on ‘peer power’. Many feel more comfortable talking about periods with friends and peers.
We have partnered with Nurofen’s See My Pain campaign to create a peer-led community of girls and young people with periods, delivering fun and informal period related activities, as well as useful information that you can share with your friends. Join us in smashing the stigma today!
We’re looking for girls and young people, aged 14-24, to join in! As a Period Proud Peer, you’ll host activities like ‘Period Parties’ (yes, they’re as fun as they sound!) and chat with friends, classmates, and other young people about periods in an open and inclusive way, helping to create a world where everyone feels supported and included.
Will you join us? Sign up and download the Period Proud Peer handbook today.

What is a Period Proud Peer?
You can be a Period Proud Peer! Are you aged between 14 and 24? Want to host fun activities on periods and menstrual health with friends and peers? If so, this project is perfect for you.
Being a Period Proud Peer involves:
- Running fun period and menstrual health games and activities with your friends and peers. This could be in your school or college, a youth group or even your workplace.
- Championing a safe space where girls and young people can talk openly about periods.
- Helping other young people feel more confident about their periods.
- Smashing the stigma and taboo that still exists today.
As a Period Proud Peer, you’re not expected to have all the answers or to teach anyone. Instead, you can help others feel more confident to share their questions and find the help, information and support they need. And it starts with the Period Proud Peer Handbook.
