A winning partnership
Thanks to players of People’s Postcode Lottery.
Since 2017, players of People's Postcode Lottery have been at the heart of what we do, raising more than £18 million towards our work to advance children’s rights and equality for girls around the world.
Poverty, violence and discrimination still hold back millions of children around the world, and it is often girls that are most affected. Unrestricted funding awarded through the Postcode Justice Trust empowers us to respond to the most pressing needs of children and girls globally.
The flexibility in funding enables us to make important investments in our people, systems and processes too. These investments are crucial in allowing us to scale up our humanitarian impact and ensure we’re delivering sustainable, locally led development programming for young people around the world.
Laura Chow, Head of Charities at People’s Postcode Lottery, said:
“Girls in the UK, as well as in other parts of the world, deserve to feel excited about their future.
“We are so pleased that support from our players is helping Plan International UK remove barriers that prevent girls from accessing their rights, ultimately taking a step towards gender equality.”
Supporting girls’ access to education in Sierra Leone
In Sierra Leone’s remote communities, many girls don’t continue education beyond primary school. Over the last five years, through the Girls Access to Education (GATE) project, players of People’s Postcode Lottery have helped over 13,000 adolescent girls continue their learning. This included vital literacy and numeracy skills, and girls transitioning into vocational training and work opportunities, such as teaching. Hear from the young women on what being a teacher means to them.
Supporting adolescent girls’ education in Zimbabwe
People’s Postcode Lottery players are supporting more than 13,000 out-of-school adolescent girls to gain skills, get back into education or pursue other training or employment opportunities through the Supporting Adolescent Girls’ Education (SAGE) project.
Standing with brave girls in Tanzania
"I won’t marry again until I’m ready and I’ve accomplished things in my life." - Nyamburi, Tanzania
Thanks to players of People's Postcode Lottery, we're building a brighter, safer future for thousands of children, particularly girls, in sub-Saharan Africa.
Player support also means we can reach girls facing early child marriage and female genital mutilation (FGM) in Tanzania, so they can make choices about their future – aided by life-skills, vocational and sports training.
