Imagine a world where every girl can learn. A world where girls can shape their own futures. Join the group of committed philanthropists making that world a reality.

Girls' education matters - but around the world, girls are prevented from learning and shaping their own futures. Poverty. Child marriage. Gender norms. Periods. Insecurity. Violence. All of these are barriers which hold girls back.

The Girls' Education Collective harnesses the power of collective philanthropy to break down these barriers. It supports Plan International’s education and learning work – helping girls stay in school, return to learning, and access education in all its forms.

By becoming a member, you will be standing alongside girls - removing the barriers that limit their choices and futures.

Education for Displaced Children in Nigeria

In northeast Nigeria, years of ongoing conflict continues to deny thousands of children their right to learn in safety. 900,000 children are estimated to be out of school here.

When armed men attacked her village in in Borno State, Khadijah, 14, was forced to flee with her family. “I forgot everything I ever learnt, I dropped out of school when I was just 9 years old.”

This project aimed to reach 60,000 out-of-school children, supporting them to build a foundation of knowledge in literacy, numeracy and basic skills that will get their education back on track.

“I can now write two, three, four and even five letter words, something I couldn’t do before,” says Khadija.

Accessible Schools for Girls in South Sudan

In South Sudan, over one million girls are currently out of school.

Poverty, gender inequality and a complex humanitarian crisis, driven by ongoing insecurity and climate change, are increasing the likelihood that girls in South Sudan will drop out of school early.

“I’m very happy about the new classroom” explains Monica, 14. “Now when it rains, we won’t have to run away. When it’s windy, we’ll be safe inside.”

This project worked to support girls like Monica to return to education in safe, climate-resilient learning environments, while addressing the wider barriers that prevent girls from attending school.
