Keep children safe and protected from violence in Sudan
We are devastated that children and their families continue to be caught up in these horrific clashes between armed groups. We hope the conflict will be resolved soon, to allow families who have been caught up in the violence to receive support, recover and rebuild their lives.
What’s happening to children in Sudan?
Hundreds of people have died, and thousands have been injured in Sudan since violence began on 15th April. Schools and hospitals have been destroyed, vital supplies are running out and many children are experiencing serious trauma. This comes when Sudan is already suffering deadly food shortages and malnutrition.
Many children and their families have been forced to make long journeys seeking safety in Sudan’s neighbouring countries of Chad, South Sudan, Ethiopia and Egypt. Others remain trapped by the ongoing fighting.
We know that during times of crisis like these, girls are often the most at risk - of sexual violence, trafficking and once forced out of school, they may never return to the classroom again.
How will my donation help children in Sudan?
The dangerous situation means we have had to pause all our programmes in Sudan while we assess current needs and ensure the wellbeing of our staff. In the neighbouring countries of Chad, South Sudan, Ethiopia and Egypt, we are already working in communities where families have fled from violence.
Your donation means that, together with local partners, we can make sure children are safe and protected. Your support will help our response teams across the region to continue monitoring the situation and assess the best ways to help children and their families.
We are assessing urgent needs, like access to food, water and shelter. It is also vital that we help keep children learning and support the wellbeing of children impacted by crisis.
