Response to Israel's plan to seize Rafah
Responding to the news of Israel’s stated intention to seize the Gazan city of Rafah, Kathleen Spencer Chapman, Director of Influencing and External Affairs at children’s charity Plan International UK said:
“Israel’s atrocious plan to seize Rafah represents yet another escalation of violence against a starving, traumatised population. The people of Gaza have no shelter, and almost no food or medical care due to Israel’s illegal blockade of humanitarian aid. Israel’s seizing of the entire city of Rafah, which the Israeli military has continued to attack relentlessly, would be another unjustifiable atrocity against children, and it cannot be allowed to go ahead.
“The ceasefire in Gaza must be immediately reinstated, and life-saving humanitarian aid must be allowed back into Gaza at once. Children and their families are already dying of starvation. Without the urgent influx of aid promised by the ceasefire, thousands more will lose their lives to hunger and related diseases alone.
“Enough is enough. World leaders must put a permanent end to these atrocities now.”
