Plan International UK and Admiral Group launch partnership to strengthen climate-resilient communities
Global charity Plan International UK has launched a new partnership with financial services organisation, Admiral Group, to strengthen how communities around the world predict, prepare for and respond to climate-related disasters.
The collaboration will support two major areas of Plan International’s climate-resilience work: the charity’s global Anticipatory Action (AA) Fund, that helps communities to prepare for climate-related crises before they happen, and an economic empowerment project for communities in drought prone areas of Burkina Faso in Africa.
Admiral’s support means that when major climate hazards such as droughts, typhoons or floods are predicted, at-risk communities in climate-affected regions can access rapid support that will help save lives, protect livelihoods, and strengthen resilience against future weather-related crises. This approach is a dignified and efficient way to support at-risk communities, with evidence showing that every $1 invested into anticipatory action can save up to $7 in avoided losses and long-term recovery costs.
The partnership will also support an innovative Plan International project in Burkina Faso - one the world’s most climate vulnerable countries. The initiative provides women, and young people aged 15-24, with funding, training and technical skills to launch climate-friendly businesses - using naturally grown products such as honey and shea - that conserve local ecosystems while enabling them to increase their income and financial independence.
Rose Caldwell, CEO of Plan International UK, said: “Climate change magnifies existing inequalities, especially for girls and young women who often have the least access to resources and decision-making powers. We are pleased to be partnering with Admiral who can help us shift that balance – ensuring women and their communities have the tools and skills to build safer, more sustainable futures."
Michelle Leavesley, Chief Sustainability Officer at Admiral Group, commented: “As an insurer, we see first‑hand the devastation and disruption that crises can have on people’s lives. We are proud to be working with Plan International UK to help communities to build resilience by preparing for future climate‑related risks and supporting young people to gain the skills and opportunities they need to build secure, fulfilling futures.”

About the Anticipatory Action Fund
As extreme weather events around the world become more frequent and destructive, Plan International UK’s Global Anticipatory Action Fund is a response to the growing need for improved disaster risk management that helps communities better prepare before a crisis strikes. Anticipatory Action empowers communities, local authorities, governments and humanitarian organisations to act during the ‘window of opportunity’ between a climate hazardous weather event being forecast and the time its impact peaks.
