Leaders must act without delay as Amnesty report concludes genocide in Gaza

5th December 2024

Responding to Amnesty International’s report concluding that Israel is committing genocide against the Palestinians of Gaza, Kathleen Spencer Chapman, Director of Influencing and External Affairs at Plan International UK said:

"Research from Amnesty International has concluded that Israel is committing some of the worst crimes imaginable against Palestinians in Gaza. World leaders must act without delay and push for an end to this horrifying violence. We need a full and immediate ceasefire now, followed by full cooperation with international legal processes. We also reiterate our call for the UK Government to immediately halt all arms sales to Israel, including parts for fighter jets that continue to bomb Gaza. History will judge us for how we act now.

"We hope this report brings much-needed scrutiny to Israel’s brutal military campaign and helps end a culture of impunity that has seen civilians deliberately starved, bombed, and massacred without consequence. At least 44,000 people have now been killed in Gaza, with women and children making up nearly 70 per cent of verified victims. This is a dark and distressing chapter in the modern history of our world, and for peace to be lasting and meaningful, it must be built on justice for the Palestinians of Gaza, as well as for all civilians affected throughout the region."
