Israel’s deliberate aid blockade is causing a humanitarian catastrophe

2nd May 2025

This week public hearings took place at the International Court of Justice on Israel’s obligation to facilitate humanitarian aid to Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank.

As the hearings come to an end, Amelia Whitworth, Head of Policy, Campaigns & Youth at Plan International UK said:

“Israel’s deliberate blockade of humanitarian aid has stopped food, water, fuel, and life-saving medical supplies from reaching millions of people in Gaza. This complete siege of Gaza is causing a humanitarian catastrophe on an unprecedented scale and millions of Palestinians’ lives hang in the balance.

“Human rights organisations had already concluded that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza, long before this week’s hearings. We know through our local partners that children are enduring the worst horrors imaginable - starvation, disease and worsening trauma.”

“The UK Government is complicit in this crisis and we urge them to step up before more lives are lost. They must immediately hold Israel accountable for its blatant disregard of International Humanitarian Law and stop the ongoing sale of UK fighter jet parts to Israel, as well as all other remaining UK weapons and ammunition sales. Until this happens, the UK has blood on its hands.

“Life-saving humanitarian aid must be allowed to enter Gaza immediately, and the violence across Gaza and the West Bank must stop without delay. Civilian lives must never be used as a weapon of war and the world cannot stand by in silence as Israel deliberately kills and starves children and their families.”
