The Government's stern words aren't enough to cancel out their complicity in horror

21st July 2025

Reacting to today’s joint statement from the UK and EU on the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza, Bethan Lewis, Head of Humanitarian at Plan International UK said:

“Today’s statement sends a long-overdue message from leaders across the world that Israel’s crimes against children and their families in Gaza must end immediately.

“But stern words from the Government are not enough to cancel out the horrors they are complicit in. As long as the UK continues to sell parts for F35 fighter jets, they play a role in Israel’s attacks against Gazan hospitals, schools and refugee camps that are killing children every day.

“The Prime Minister, along with all leaders around the world, must use every lever available to hold Israel accountable for its constant, blatant disregard of International Humanitarian Law. Israel’s illegal blockade of humanitarian aid must be lifted immediately and the operations of the so-called ‘Gaza Humanitarian Foundation’ must be permanently ended. This scheme is a deathtrap that has already killed hundreds of people desperately seeking food for their families.

“The catastrophic situation for children in Gaza is a moral stain on humanity: they are sick, starving and utterly traumatised. No child should ever live through such tragedy.”
