With attention elsewhere, the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza is now at its most critical
Dr Unni Krishnan, Global Humanitarian Director at global children’s charity Plan International said:
“The humanitarian situation in Gaza is at catastrophic levels, with Israel’s air strikes, military action and the deliberate denial of humanitarian aid continuing to turn Gaza into a graveyard.
“Children and their families are being killed almost daily simply for trying to collect food and basic aid for their survival, with reports that 25 more people were killed by Israeli forces this morning. This is the opposite of a humanitarian operation – it is a cruel, inhumane system that weaponises hunger and goes against all the core principles of International Humanitarian Law and humanitarian principles.
“Israel’s deliberate blockade of humanitarian assistance is plunging Gaza into a man-made hunger catastrophe, with the entire 2.1 million population now on the brink of famine. Children and their families are dying every day in Gaza from starvation and related diseases, and without immediate intervention thousands more will lose their lives.
“We urge the UK Government to immediately stop selling fighter jet parts to Israel and hold the Israeli Government accountable for its blatant disregard of International Humanitarian Law. The world cannot look away while Israel continues to starve and kill Palestinian children and their families.
