Despite years of progress, so many girls are still being locked out of education, being denied their rights and are facing a future of violence. By challenging yourself to Step Up for Girls you are saying enough is enough, taking direct action and raising funds to create a world where:

  • Education is central to every child’s life
  • Every girl has the right to choose what happens to her own body
  • All young people, especially girls, can determine their own future
Yeimi recognises her right to freedom and education, El Salvador
“We are born with rights. The right to freedom, the right to education. We girls have learnt that we have the same power as boys.”

15-year-old Yeimi lives in El Salvador, where cases of violence against women and girls have surged and are at greater risk of facing physical, emotional and sexual abuse.

Yeimi took part in our ‘Champions of Change’ project which aims to advance gender equality through youth engagement. As part of the project, we have created safe spaces for girls to access peer networks, mentors and leadership opportunities.

Your fundraising will help support a new generation of activists, educators and future female leaders to rise up and speak out for gender equality for girls just like Yeimi.

Take it at your own pace

Walk, run or wheel a distance of your choice to suit your ability and call time on gender inequality your way.

What happens after I’ve signed up?

Once you’ve signed up to Step Up for Girls, our team will be in touch to get you ready for the challenge and keep you motivated. We'll provide plenty of tips and ideas to help you make your fundraiser a success. You can also begin your fundraising journey straight away, by setting up a JustGiving page.

Can I change the steps target?

Of course, 10,000 steps a day isn't right for everyone, and we would be thrilled if you adapted the challenge to suit you. It doesn’t matter how far you walk, run or wheel it's the taking part that counts!

How do I raise money?

Simply create a JustGiving page and share it with your family and friends, asking them to donate in support of your challenge. You can also raise awareness of your fundraiser by sharing it on social media with the hashtag #StepUpforGirls.

Is there a minimum fundraising target?

There is no minimum fundraising amount – we suggest setting a target of £100.

How do I get my free tote bag?

Once you have raised £30 on your Just Giving fundraising page, we will post your tote bag to your address.

Do I have to prove my steps count?

No, we trust you!

It all starts with your next step
