Girl washes her hands in Bangladesh

Over 9 million people

given water, sanitation and hygiene

Our water, sanitation and hygiene programme in Bangladesh and Pakistan came to an end, having exceeded its targets over the past few years.

The programme provided water to more than 279,000 people and supported 1.9m people to construct household toilets. The handwashing with soap programme has reached more than 7.1m people.

Helping Children in Emergencies and Disasters

We responded to 24 disasters

Plan International UK reacted around the world as disaster struck - assisting almost 600,000 people when they were most in need.

We provided better quality shelter and safe sanitation for over 3,000 households affected by the 2015 Nepal earthquake. Nearly 8,000 families received winterisation kits, 52,000 people had food assistance and we gave 1,800 households unconditional cash transfers.

In Africa we’ve provided 17,800 Burundian refugee children with psychosocial support and items such as clothes and shoes. While in Cameroon we've provided refugees with sanitation and hygiene, so far 23,000 people have benefitted.

Working with corporate partners

After six years our Banking on Change partnership with Barclays has ended, having helped 758,000 people with financial services. Almost 12,000 youth savings groups were set up, reaching 120,000 young people, who set up around 60,000 small businesses in their communities.

Our partnership with Credit Suisse and Aflatoun reached 44,000 girls in Brazil, China, India and Rwanda with financial and life skills education.

Our work with Chelsea FC raised over £100,000 for the Champions of Change project – teaching children in Colombia about equality and respect and combating gender stereotypes.

CBRE’s Girls’ Education Challenge is helping over 20,000 girls in Sierra Leone to get an education.

As well as raising money from sponsors, donors and private companies, we also held numerous events in order to raise funds and awareness. From Plan Talks and the Gala Dinner, to an evening at the House of Lords and the Youth Action Festival. These were all excellent opportunities for us to interact with celebrities, peers, partners and the young people that we put at the heart of our work. We were also the charity partner of London’s Women in the world summit.

Our 2015 seasonal appeal to help children orphaned by Ebola raised £155,000; London Marathon runners raised over £32,000 in April and the Row like a girl team raised £25,000, rowing 3,000 miles across the Atlantic, becoming the youngest and fastest all-woman crew to row the Atlantic unaided. Generous donors left £568,000 in legacy donations.

To all our partners, be they sponsors, donors, corporations, or campaigners, thanks for your support over the past year and we look forward to updating you next year on even more exciting results.
