Team Plan 2016 London Marathon success
Team Plan 2016 London Marathon success
Thanks to our runners in blue that completed the gruelling 26-mile course over the weekend, here we highlight their successes
This was year that saw the race counted down from space, the one millionth runner cross the finish line and Kenyan, Eliud Kipchoge recording the second fastest marathon in history at 2hrs 3mins and 5secs.
We were there to cheer on our 18 inspirational Team Plan runners in the 36th London Marathon, one of the greatest races in the world.
Our team included ex-football player Jon, Tamsin a sponsor from Devon, and writer and director, Renay, who completed her first marathon after taking up running less than a year ago.
We’ve loved supporting each and every one of our runners over the last few months all of whom have achieved something incredible.
Together, the runners raised over £32,000 to support our work with children and young people around the world.
Gill, running in memory of her husband, Ian found the day “inspiring and an experience I will always treasure, while remembering Ian's legacy too.”
“I had an awesome day and have come out of it relatively unscathed, a few aches but that's all, so I’m really proud.”
Tamsin was inspired to run with Team Plan through her sponsorship of Saliyatou in Niger who is the same age as her own daughter. She has been fundraising with the support of family and friends to exceed her £2,000 target by selling disco beads at craft fairs, cake and coffee mornings and even hosting a disco herself!
“It’s been hard work but very rewarding knowing what a great cause Plan is and I feel we have introduced a lot of people locally to the charity who were not aware of it.”
“Thanks again for choosing me to be part of Team Plan 2016! It’s been a brilliant experience.”
Rebecca who was persuaded by her Grandad to apply while watching the 2015 race from the sofa hasn’t “stopped smiling since”.
If you are feeling inspired after this weekend’s race, the ballot for 2017 is now open. You can also register your interest in one of our guaranteed charity places and we’ll be in touch in October when the ballot results are announced.
