Plan International ready to respond to Hurricane Irma

Tanya Barron, Chief Executive at Plan International UK said:

Already, the world’s eyes are on Florida, but there will be thousands of people in Haiti and the Dominican Republic who will need help over the coming days and weeks.

Plan International has emergency response specialists on the ground and is ready to respond immediately to the looming threat of Hurricane Irma in Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

Our priority is to assist children, especially girls, and their families, working with them to ensure they receive the support they need both before and after the hurricane hits. Children are the most vulnerable during disasters and emergencies because they can be subject to trafficking and sexual abuse.

Haiti is one of the poorest and most fragile countries in the world, and is still recovering from the devastation caused by both the earthquake in 2010 and Hurricane Matthew in October 2016. Communities are extremely worried that the same may happen again.
