Charlie-Jade Concert
“I have always been a strong believer in equality”
Charlie-Jade celebrates women through a spectacular concert
To celebrate the 100th Anniversary of women being able to vote, trained soprano Charlie-Jade created an event like no other. In her own words, Charlie-Jade talks about her wonderful concert, For The Love Of Girls.
"I have always been a strong believer in equality – women being equal to men. We are very lucky in our society that thanks to some incredible women many years ago, we are able to vote, drive, wear what we want and get an education.
These things are so simple and everyday that you forget that so many girls don’t get this.
As a soprano I have performed in lots of concerts, some of them for charities, and I really wanted to produce my own. I knew with 2018 being the 100th anniversary of women starting to get the vote in the UK, I wanted to do something to celebrate women and their achievements in music and theatre.
I am very lucky to have worked with some amazing female singers and creatives, so I decided to pull my amazing friends and colleagues together to celebrate female composers and lyricists in musical theatre.
As this idea was blossoming, an advert for Plan International UK's Sponsor A Girl came on my TV and suddenly everything fell into place. I researched into the charity and found they were working to achieve everything I believed in!
I loved Plan's ‘Because I Am A Girl’ campaign and it seemed to fit perfectly with my working title of the concert: ‘For The Love Of Girls’.
After months of hard work, the concert opened on Friday 15 June 2018 at The Other Palace Theatre just off London’s West End. Featuring an incredible cast of West End singers, an all-female band and creative team, and hosted by the magnificent Wendi Peters.
The evening was such a huge success and a big highlight for me personally (apart from the whole concert) was singing a song with two lovely friends about a young girl being able to chase after her dreams straight after the Because I Am A Girl video was played. It seemed to make all the stress worth it in that one moment!
If anyone wanted to do something similar I would say organisation is key! My top three tips are: stay organised, stay passionate and stay positive!"
