We came, we scored, we conquered

Teams from London and beyond came to Chelsea FC’s Stamford Bridge yesterday (May 19) to battle it out for the first ever Champions of Change Cup in aid of Plan International.

The Champions of Change Cup, raising funds for Plan International and Chelsea FC’s joint project in Colombia, gave 12 lucky teams the chance to play at the home of football legends including Gianfranco Zola and Didier Drogba. It was a brilliant day, raising £50,000 for our work – and even the sun came out of hiding for us!

The companies who took part in the special tournament included real estate services firm CBRE, marketing agencies Adam&Eve and Zone, investment firms D E Shaw, Nomura, and Centerview, and financial services firm BGL.

With Stamford Bridge transformed into the ‘Plan stadium’ for the day, the teams arrived, quickly changed into their special edition Plan kits and were itching to get on the pitch and play.

After a quick warm-up, all important stretching, and a reminder about the offside rule from the Chelsea coaches, the teams were off to compete for the cup.

A great – and competitive! - tournament followed, with plenty of action on the pitch, a great atmosphere and team spirit, and no shortage of on-pitch selfies, group hugs and lavish goal celebrations.

At the end of the afternoon, Chelsea FC favourite and Club Ambassador Carlo Cudicini, a proud supporter of Plan International, having visited our work in Ghana, attended the event to present the winning team with their medals and trophies.

Carlo crowned the team from Anson Security and Electrical as the first ever Champions of Change Cup winners, with Chelsea Football Club Staff team winning the second-tier Plate competition. Michael Habte from Shere Panjab Corporation grabbed the golden boot while Najim Kefaifi from Nomura won the special crossbar challenge.

Carlo was delighted to be back on the pitch at Stamford Bridge. “I’ve got so many happy memories of playing at this amazing stadium,” he said. “It was great to be back to support Plan International and to welcome the tournament teams.”
