Raising money at the Champions of Change Cup

This week, we hosted the 2017 Champions of Change Cup. Teams from across London and beyond came to Stamford Bridge to battle it out in a special football tournament at Stamford Bridge, home to Premier League champions Chelsea FC. And all for a good cause!

CBRE celebrate their victory at the Champions of Change Cup 2017

One hundred players played on the hallowed turf of Blues legends, raising an incredible £60,000 in the process. The money raised will go to our Champions of Change programme in Colombia, which is transforming the lives of young boys and girls around the world through the power of football

Among the ten teams who participated were real estate firm CBRE, law firm Centerview Partners UK LLP and international investment firm 3i.

Players warmed up on the pitch with Chelsea FC coaches, played games managed by FA qualified referees and took selfies in full kit with the Premier League trophy. They were later joined by Chelsea legend Tore Andre Flo, who crowned CBRE the winners and awarded the fellow teams their medals and trophies.

Stories from the day

It’s been an incredible day and it’s amazing to play on the pitch here Stamford Bridge, particularly since Chelsea FC are the champions this year. It makes it even better knowing that all the funds are going to such a worthy cause.

Tore Andre Flo, sponsors his own child in Benin and has seen, first hand, the difference money raised for Plan International makes to local communities. "It’s always fantastic to come to Stamford Bridge – I feel so welcome here. Obviously, I have great memories of the pitch but its’ an amazing atmosphere here today.

Plan International and Chelsea FC are doing incredible work - being here today and seeing everybody have so much fun for such a good cause is inspiring. I’ve seen how much we can help these communities and I encourage everyone to sign up next year!

How we’re using football to help children

We work with Chelsea FC is to use football as a powerful tool in local communities. We use their brand and popularity to get kids into our programmes, so that we can help them turn their lives around.

We work in some of the world’s poorest communities, in places where children don’t have the chance to have an education, where children as young as ten years old are recruited into gangs and where teenage pregnancy is a huge problem.

Football doesn’t solve those problems but what it offers is a way in, a way for us to reach these children and to better equip them to deal with the challenges they face. We wouldn’t be able to reach those kids without Chelsea FC.

We became Chelsea FC’s global charity partner in September 2015, and together we’ve been working to change the lives of children in Asia, Africa and South America.
