Larice walks a dangerous path to school every day. In her community, in the north east of Brazil violence is rife, gangs rule the roost and muggings take place every day.

“Living in this kind of community can be oppressive, I don’t feel safe. Girls are more vulnerable in my community, you can’t walk alone or you might get attacked.”

Making communities safer

“Plan International Brazil runs a Girls Leadership project at my school. We can speak out against violence towards girls and women and we fight for equality. I feel safe when I get to school.”

We believe that girls like Larice shouldn’t face violence at or on their way to school.
