Brave: meet the girls of South Sudan
Brave: meet the girls of South Sudan
This summer, we’re hosting a powerful photography exhibition at gallery@oxo, on London’s Southbank.
The exhibition looks at the day-to-day lives of girls growing up in in the world’s youngest country: South Sudan.
Since it gained independence in July 2011, South Sudan has been experiencing one of the world’s greatest humanitarian crises. Armed conflict, economic insecurity and chronic underdevelopment have left over four million people displaced and seven million without enough food to eat.
Kate Holt’s photography captures the remarkable bravery and resilience of the girls as they cope with conflict, violence and hunger, alongside stories of their experiences.

Our work in South Sudan
Thanks to your generous support for our East Africa appeal, which we launched with the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC), we’ve been responding to the crisis in South Sudan.
We’ve been distributing seeds and tools, so households can grow their own crops and are able to provide for their families.
We’ve also been working to improve nutrition, promote hygiene and distribute dignity kits to adolescent girls, so they can manage their periods safely.
