Journalist, broadcaster and campaigner - 9th October 2013
Plan Talk with Mariella Frostrup, hosted by Jude Kelly, Artistic Director of the Southbank Centre - 9th October 2013
To mark the week of International Day of the Girl 2013, journalist, broadcaster and campaigner Mariella Frostrup spoke about her views on women's rights and gender equality, and her personal journey to become the woman she is today. She explained that hearing the stories of the courageous women she met on her trips to Africa was behind her passion for campaigning, and she emphasised the importance of role models and mentors for young girls.
Host Jude Kelly invited the audience to reflect on the shocking attack exactly a year before on teenager Malala Yousafzai in Pakistan, simply for campaigning for every girl to go to school.
Plan UK CEO Tanya Barron and Chair Janet Paraskeva talked about our campaign for girls' education and the activities we had planned for International Day of the Girl on Friday 11th October, including a giant 'erasable' billboard in London's Trafalgar Square.
We would like to thank Mariella and The GREAT Initiative for an inspiring and enjoyable evening.
