DEC Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal
At least 3 million people, including children, have fled their homes to escape conflict in Ukraine – and that number keeps rising. Leaving behind jobs, belongings and loved ones, they need shelter, care and relief.
Fighting is forcing children to flee their homes. Families are being separated. Schools have been occupied or damaged in the conflict – around 350,000 school-aged children currently have no access to education.
Your support will help Plan International and other Disaster Emergency Committee (DEC) charities scale up our relief response. Please donate today and help children and their families affected by this crisis.

Intense conflict in Ukraine is threatening the lives and livelihoods of civilians across the country, causing hundreds of thousands to flee. Homes have been destroyed or are unsafe to live in. Essential services have been hit. Families have been separated. People have been injured. Lives have been lost.
At Ukraine’s borders with Poland, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia and Moldova, huge numbers of people are arriving with only what they can carry. DEC charities are in Ukraine and neighbouring countries, working with local partners to provide food, water, medical assistance, protection and trauma care.
We will work with organisations who are present and already working day and night to ensure there is immediate help for children and their families as they cross the border from Ukraine.
We need your support to scale up our response. Donate today to the DEC Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.
The Disasters Emergency Committee
Plan International UK is a member of the Disasters Emergency Committee, an umbrella organisation that brings together UK aid agencies to tackle major humanitarian emergencies. It aims to save lives by maximising money raised and ensuring funds are spent in the most effective and transparent way possible.
Escaping the conflict
“I have come to Bucharest with my mum," says 16-year-old Katy. "We’ve travelled for seven hours on the train to get here." Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, over 2 million people have fled their homes to escape the conflict.
“I’ve never left Ukraine before now but I feel okay. It feels very similar here in Romania. The help has been good – when we got off the train there were instantly people wanting to help, support organisations ready to help people," she says.
With your help, Plan International and other DEC charities can scale up our response and help children and families affected by this crisis.
Children in crisis
In war, children pay the highest price. Many have had to flee fighting and see relatives drafted into military service. Some will have witnessed traumatic acts of violence or been caught up in shelling or air strikes. Schools have been occupied or damaged and around 350,000 school-aged children currently have no access to education.
Plan International has urgent response teams in Moldova, Romania and Poland. We will work with local organisations to help children stay safe, recover from trauma and get back into education.
