DEC Afghanistan Crisis Appeal
More than 8 million people are on the brink of famine in Afghanistan. Drought, conflict and the coronavirus pandemic are causing a catastrophic rise in hunger. Children are dying today, and a million more under the age of five may die in the next three months.
If we don’t act now, many lives could be lost. More than 22 million people could go hungry as the freezing winter sets in, with children amongst those most vulnerable. We’re also concerned about the impact this crisis will have on the safety of women and girls.
Your support will help the Disasters Emergency Committee(DEC) provide emergency food and nutrition support for children, support healthcare facilities and work to ensure temporary shelters are fit for winter. Other priorities include supplying clean drinking water and protecting women and girls.
Plan International UK is a member of the Disasters Emergency Committee, an umbrella organisation that brings together 15 UK aid agencies to tackle major humanitarian emergencies. It aims to save lives by maximising money raised and ensuring funds are spent in the most effective and transparent way possible.
While Plan International UK does not work in Afghanistan, other DEC members are coordinating closely with the local authorities and UN agencies to deliver humanitarian assistance in ways that best address the needs of those affected.
The humanitarian need for the people of Afghanistan is enormous and as a member of the DEC, we are supporting this Crisis Appeal. Many DEC charities are already on the ground, scaling up their operations to reach the people most in need.
Please donate now to the DEC Afghanistan Crisis Appeal, as children’s lives are at risk today.
